Gun Facts and Statistics

OK, so most recently, there has been an assault on the NRA and those who own firearms.  As always, this is a knee-jerk reaction to some form of tragedy, and in this instance, it is the Florida school shootings.  While what took place is a tragedy in every sense of the word, banishing weapons (specifically the AR-15) will not resolve the problem.

Since Fake News has proven time and time again that they are not a source to be trusted, I chose to dig into the facts and numbers from reputable first hand sources of information, and draw some conclusions which you will see below.

First off, I've decided to do some research about a leading cause of teen fatalities, which is driving and operating motor vehicles.  According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, there were 2,820 motor vehicle deaths in 2016 caused by teen drivers.  The statistic has demonstrated a downward trend in the below-listed chart:

While the decrease in deaths can likely be attributed to safety advances in automobiles, the number of teens killed each year is both alarming and frightening.  Yet, when a teenager is killed in an automobile collision, I have never heard of corporations cutting ties with the Ford Motor Company and calling for a ban on cars.......I also will not get into the increase in fatalities as a result of distracted driving in this post....

OK, so let's take a look at death rates for children involving firearms......

According to the Centers for Disease Control, in 2014, 4,300 children were the victims of homicide, and 86% of those were murdered with the use of a firearm (this is estimated to be 3,698).    According to the FBI, in the same year, 68% of all homicides used a handgun, while a mere 3% used a rifle of some type.

So, it would be logical to conclude that if all homicides of children were done with AR-15's, this would account for 129 total deaths.......This is statistically impossible.  For starters, one would have to assume the AR-15 is the ONLY weapon used for murder, when there are many varieties of weapons sold.  What is even more concerning is that this is less than 5% of total fatalities involving automobiles, yet the left is quick to push a ban on these weapons and not automobiles?

Ok, so what is my point?  There are a couple that I would like you to mull over.......

  • Motor vehicles clearly are an avoidable cause of death for children, but we are not so quick to ban use of motor vehicles by teenagers?  This makes no sense, assuming banning things is an effective means of doing anything (oh yeah....it is not - Econ 101 teaches us that a black market will evolve, which has fewer checks and safety measures than an established market which can do things like background checks).  Banning the weapons will not even address the leading cause of death for teenagers.
  • Rifles account for 3% of homicides, yet those morons to the left are quick to jump on an assault weapon ban?  Clearly (as always) they have not done their homework.
  • The demoncrats on the left are quick to point out that they "need gun legislation to protect the children," yet they are also supporting Planned Parenthood, which murders children through abortion?  This makes no sense (which is a recurring theme you will see with the left - they make no sense).
  • The rights of citizens to keep and bear arms is guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment.  The Constitution was designed to be a living document.....if the will of the people desires for it to be changed, there is a change process outlined.
It is more important than ever to educate yourself about the facts, rather than what Fake News decides to tell you.  It is also more important than ever that you read the Constitution, and have an understanding of what rights our forefathers guaranteed us.
